Hybrid layout - Let's do this!

I’ve always admired scrapbookers that create hybrid layouts, I love their ability to combine digital elements with paper and embellishments. When I started creating my September projects for Studio Calico, I challenged myself to use a digital stamp and incorporate it on a layout. I have to admit that I was intimidated by the thought of doing this but also realized that it’s a good thing for the creative mojo to push myself to try new things.

I opted to use “The Great Outdoors” digital stamp. Using my photo editing software I opened the file and dragged it on a blank canvas, then I stretched it out to the desired size. And voila, the perfect title for a page. Which was printed of white cardstock from Michael’s, nothing fancy. 

I have realized that some have wondered what this layout is about, really this layout is just about being creative. I used a picture of a leaf covered with rain drops (yes it’s a picture) and created layers using leftovers from the Lost River scrapbook and document kits. By this point I had created 4 layouts so I was running low on embellishments (I do love to use lots of embelies so I go through them very quickly), I opted to use some of the gold chipboard letters as accents. The “o”’s  are the perfect accent and a creative way to “stretch” a kit. 

There you have it, a fun and easy way to creating a hybrid layout.

6x12 PL - All About Me

This year I decided to create two PL albums, one for our weekly family 

activities, which is a 9x12 format and the other 

a monthly journal of sorts that documents stuff that I like, do

and am interested in, this format is 6x12. 

I document items that might not be as relevant or 

interesting in my family album but it is still worth documenting. 

Since I didn't have a 6x12 album I opted to trim down a

12x12 American Craft chipboard album to 6x12. 

It works perfectly. 

I created this spread for Studio Calico using the

amazing Pretty In Pink Documenter kit. 

2016 PL Cover Page

Today I'm sharing my 2016 cover page. I used the Arendal kit

by Studio Calico to create this page. 

 I use a 9x12 for most of my spreads, I love the smaller format

compared to 12x12, it's still offers plenty of room for weekly

documentation. My favourite type of page protectors is the 

9 3x4 picture slots. 

My goal for my cover page was to have everyone

in our little family showcased individually.

Since it was winter, we all bundled up and went 

outside in front of our garage where I took pictures

of everyone. Now I'm starting a new album for the second

half of the year and will have to do this again. 

Lost River - Studio Calico Sneaks

I'm so excited to be contributing to the September gallery for

Studio Calico. The September kits - Lost River are absolutely

amazing!!! This month I created 4 layouts and a PL spread, 

and I think I might still have a couple of projects ahead. 

The kits are that good, I can't stop creating.

Studio Calico - June Main Documenter Kit

I'm a bit late posting my June projects for Studio Calico,

so here's my first project.  

This spread is one of my fave projects for that month. 

I only used the Documenter kit, this kit was so

good that it didn't need anything else. 

I love using the 6x12 format every once in a while, 

it's a fun size and perfect for showcasing 4x6 pics.

Summer Faves - Studio Calico

I shared this layout last week on the Studio Calico website

and thought it would be a good idea to share on the little old blog

as well. 

This is my 3rd layout that I created with the July kits, i love the

soft colour palette paired with the bold alpha and fun

summer accents. 

This layout came together while i was working on another layout, 

using the 4x6 paper pad I created layers that would

anchor my photograph. This is a fun and easy way to use up

the paper pads that compliment the monthly kits.

I created with the amazing July Studio Calico kits - Pool Party!

To create this layout I used a mix of the Documenter and 

Scrapbook kit, both as so very perfect for my fave summer pics.

April SC Reveal

It's been a while...

Hello friends! It's been a long time since I've updated this blog. Thought it was time to clean it up and give it a fresh new look, perhaps it will help me blog more...

Since my last update I've started designing for Studio Calico...what?! Yeah I fell off my chair when I got the email. I've been a fan of SC for like forever, to be invited to work with their Documenter kit was such a thrill. Here are some previews of my first projects, hop on to SC to see the full images.

NYC Mini Album / PL cards

Hello friends!! Thought it was time for me to share my NYC mini album that I created using mostly 3x4 cards and a PL kit. I have a new found love for mini albums and thought it would be fun to create an album using PL cards. The process to create this mini album was rather simple, just pile it on. LOL! I kept my pictures to mostly 3x4 to compliment the PL cards and added large pieces of pattern paper to create the covers.  As you can see, all those 3x4 PL cards you've been collecting can also be used in a mini album, they really simplify the process. Love You Video with 2Peas

Hello friends! Today is an exciting day, I'm sharing my second video for 2Peas!! I always get nervous when I create and share videos, it's probably because it is all new to me. I had fun making this one, although it take s a while to do my set up, in the end I'm always happy with how the process went.

Hello friends!!! Today I'm sharing a mixed media layout I created a while back, when I was playing with gelatos and modeling paste. I was actually going to throw away the white cardstock, but I was cleaning my work table and came across it in my toss pile, I loved the look of the gelatos once it was dry. 

The photo is inspired by Marcy Penner, she posted a similar picture on her IG thread and knew I had to recreate it. This layout is all about how I was fed up with winter, hence the "over" title. 

Mixed Media with Studio Calico

A little while back I mentioned that I was contributing to the awesome Mixed Media class at Studio Calico.

PL Spread with 2Peas in a Bucket

Hello friends! Over the weekend I shared a new PL spread on 2 Peas in a Bucket. This spread showcase a milestone using a large picture. Even though this was a bit challenging at first, I really love the end result.

Week 36

Hello friends! You might or might not have been wondering what happened to my 2013 PL. Well, I'm still catching up, returning to work full time last fall and trying to do a weekly PL just didn't work for me, so I'm still slowly catching up. That is the main reason why I've decided to do my 2014 PL on a monthly basis, this concept works much better for me. But I do need to finish my 2013 album, I can't leave it have done. So every once in a while I will do a spread. The pictures are all ready, some are even printed and already in the page protectors, so half the job is done. 

I've decided to start sharing my weeks again, they are not fancy at all, very simple and basic but the memories are documented and this makes me happy.
